Indiana has always been a basketball school when it has come to sports. But in the 1980s under Bill Mallory, they were at least somewhat competitive and played in a few bowl games and had a few winning seasons.
Indiana has always been a basketball school when it has come to sports. But in the 1980s under Bill Mallory, they were at least somewhat competitive and played in a few bowl games and had a few winning seasons.
The Illinois Fighting Illinis have always been a consistent winner and even contender in the Big 10 Conference in football, as well as basketball. Dick Butkus played there, as well as a lot of other great NFL players.
Both teams were winners in 1988, so this was an important game in the Big 10 that years, because both programs were in contention now just for bowl games, but the Big 10 Championship and Rose Bowl.
