Jay The Penetrator: 'Kareem Abdul Jabbar: The Unstoppable Sky Hook'

Source:Jay The Penetrator- Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: the greatest center, if not player in NBA history, talking about his sky hook.

"Kareem Abdul Jabbar: The Unstoppable Sky Hook"

From Jay The Penetrator

As former NBA center Bill Cartwright said, who was a very good defensive center himself with his size, physical strength, and height, Kareem's sky hook wasn't impossible to stop, but very close to impossible.

The only way to stop Kareem's sky hook was to knock him out of his comfort zone. Deny his the position in the post. And if you don't do that, knock him out far enough without fouling him and make him take that show further out then he wanted to. A lot easier said than done, because Kareem wasn't just 7'2, but he was very strong and by the time he retired he was playing at around 265-270 pounds, all muscle. And there just weren't many center back then with that kind of height, physical strength, and bulk, to move Kareem out of the post and either deny him position or make him take a tougher shot then he wanted to.

The best NBA centers to play against Kareem defensively in the 1980s, were probably Moses Malone, Robert Parish, and Bill Laimbeer, because they both had the physical strength and bulk to try to deny Kareem his position in the post and make him take a tough shot or just deny him position. But you couldn't strop Kareem very often in the post, let alone all the time, because he was just a giant of man with his 7'2, 265 pound frame.
